Bears Too Tall For Visiting Georgia College

MACON – The home-standing Mercer men's tennis team needed just 22 minutes to clinch the pivotal doubles point, and then captured all six singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 7-0 triumph over Georgia College on Wednesday afternoon at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center in south Macon.
The triumph snapped a five-match skid for MU (2-7), while also keeping the Orange & Black perfect in the 4-match-old series with their local rivals. The Bobcats (2-7) have now dropped two-straight matches, and fell to 0-3 in true road matches this season as well.
Mercer surrendered just two games in taking the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matchups. Sophomore Nemanja Stefanovic and junior Marceau Fouilhoux needed 18 minutes to take care of GC's Gabriel Cizek and Jorge Robinson, 6-0, while MU's senior duo of Samuel Barrow and Samuel MacLeod finished up a 6-2 win over GC's tandem of Enzo Sergi and Sebastian Nunez four minutes later.
In singles action, Barrow and fellow senior Victor Putter finished off their contests at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, in 60 minutes or less, and senior Lucas Dini clinched the team victory three minutes after that on a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rodrigo Crespo on court No. 3.
The rest of the tilt offered very similar results for the Bears. Stefanovic downed Robinson, 6-2 and 6-1, in 70 minutes at No. 1 singles, while Fouilhoux ousted Noe Villen 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 16 minutes in their matchup at No. 3 singles.
MacLeod finished off a perfect day for the Bears on court No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Enzo Sergi. That match took just less than 90 minutes to complete.
Mercer will now take a 2-week hiatus from competition before opening up the Southern Conference portion of its 2024 spring schedule on March 17 at Wofford (4-5, 0-0 SoCon).
