MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will dive into the Southern Conference portion of its 2024 spring schedule on Sunday morning when the Bears suit up to welcome Wofford for a mid-morning matchup at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and admission is free.
Fans unable to make the trip to Macon can follow the match for free via a live statistics link provided by the MU athletics department.
The Bears (2-9, 0-0 SoCon) will see their first action in nearly three weeks when it takes to the courts on Sunday morning. Mercer blanked local rival Georgia College by a 7-0 count in its last action of the campaign on February 28. The Orange & Black surrendered just four games on the way to grabbing the doubles point in that tilt, and then logged straight-sets victories in all six singles matches.
Sophomore Nemanja Stefanovic will lead MU into SoCon play having already logged five singles victories on court No. 1 in the spring, and is 5-5 over his last 10 outings, including wins in two of his last three matchups. Mercer's tandem of Samuel Barrow and Samuel MacLeod have posted three doubles wins on court No. 3, while Stefanovic and partner Marceau Fouilhoux have equaled that feat on court No. 2 with a trio of wins as well.
Scotsman Jack Deveney has amassed an 8-4 record at No. 5 singles for the Terriers (6-6, 1-0) so far this spring, while South Carolinian Robbie Young is 7-3 on court No. 4. Wofford's strength in doubles play has come on court No. 3 where Ian Rasheed and Ray Ashe have tallied six wins against just two losses.
Wofford and the Bears have split seven previous matchups in a hotly-contested series, but MU has taken three of the last four meetings, including a 4-1 decision at last year's SoCon Championships. The Terriers registered a 4-3 win over the Bears on their last trip to Macon in 2022.
