
Mercer Travels To Nashville To Play Vanderbilt

MACON, Ga. -Â The Mercer women's lacrosse team is back on the road as they head to Nashville, Tennessee to play Vanderbilt on Wednesday. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. eastern, noon central time.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will be just the second all-time meeting between Mercer and Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt won the first meeting between the two programs back in 2021, 15-10. That game was also played in Nashville.
LAST TIME OUT
In a high scoring game, the Mercer Bears outlasted Coastal Carolina for a 24-20 win last Saturday in Macon.
Mercer's 24 goals were second most this season and tied for the third most goals the Bears have scored in a game all-time. Gabby DiVirgilio led Mercer's attack with a career high 10 points. DiVirgilio had four goals and six assists on the day. Seven different Mercer players had at least two goals in the game.
Kayla Soltys had a career high five goals to go with one assist for a six-point afternoon. She also had a game high eight draw controls.
SCOUTING VANDERBILT
Vanderbilt enters the game with a 4-2 record. The Commodores are coming off the 13-11 win at home over Arizona State on Sunday.
Mercer and Vanderbilt have played one common opponent this year in Kennesaw State. Mercer defeated the Owls 25-7, while Vanderbilt edged Kennesaw State 16-15.
The 2024 Vanderbilt squad has plenty of new players as 12 new student-athletes—seven freshmen and five transfers—have joined the program this year.
The Commodores are scoring 12.2 goals per game and allowing 14.2 goals per game. Vanderbilt has scored at least 13 goals in all four of its wins but in its two losses scored a combined eight goals.
Vanderbilt is second in the AAC in caused turnovers per game at 10.0. For the Commodores, graduate midfielder Brooke Baker leads the team offensively with 13 goals on the year. Junior attacker Molly Finlay leads the team in points with 15 on the season.
In goal for Vanderbilt is graduate student Paige Gunning who has a 13.19 goals against average and a .377 save percentage.
