Bears Topple LaGrange At Bears Beach Bash

MACON – Rain stopped play at the Bears Beach Bash, but nothing could stop Mercer in its 5-0 victory over LaGrange College.

Every pairing won their duals in straight sets against the Panthers, with the No. 1 pairing of Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie dominating their match 21-10, 21-12.

Nicole O'Mara and Jordan Paddock, along with Lexi Polychrones and Reese Hood picked up their fourth victories of the season on court two and three, respectively, with triumphant 21-10, 21-11 and 21-7, 21-8 wins.

On court four, Liv Diaz and Kathryn Corbett picked up their first win as a pair, winning their match 21-10, 21-8, and the No. 5 pairing of Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel rounded out the sweep with back-to-back 21-12 decisions.

Mercer's contest against Carson-Newman will resume at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow to open day two of the tournament. The Bears will rematch the Eagles at 12:00 p.m., before concluding the event at 2:00 p.m. against LaGrange College.
