EATONTON – Senior Tobias Jonsson fired off a 1-under-par 71 in Sunday's opening round to lead the Mercer men's golf team to a 13th-place standing amid a stacked field at the MU-hosted Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course.

Jonsson (-1) registered four birdies and a trio of bogeys in Sunday's opening-round action and is among a 10-way tie for 29th place heading into the second day of the three day tournament in Eatonton. The Swede is nine strokes off of the pace set by 21st-ranked Alabama's Jonathan Griz (-10) who carded eight birdies and one eagle in a bogey-free round on Sunday.

Mercer Jacob Uyesato (+2) tallied a pair of birdies and shares 52nd place with nine other players after the first round, while seniors Jonathan Parker (+4) and Jay Spivey (+4) both turned in 4-over-par 78s and are among a six-way tie for 68th place. Junior Trey Mixon (+9) is in a tie for 78th place to round out scoring for the Orange & Black.

Freshman Charlie Fischer (+3) and senior Gustav Sjoberg (+9), who are playing in the event as individual competitors, are tied for 62nd and 78th place, respectively.

Alabama, one of five teams in Eatonton who are appearing in the top 25 or the others receiving votes section of the latest Golf Coaches Association of America Top 25, leads the rest of the 14-team field by nine strokes heading into Monday's second round. No 12. Virginia (-12) is in second place after Sunday's opening round, while Georgia (-9) rounds out the top 3.

Monday's second round at the Great Waters Golf Course is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 a.m. Mercer's tee times begin at 10 a.m.
