Fouilhoux Picks Up SoCon Player Of The Week Laurel

GREENVILLE, S.C. – A riveting battle that stretched across two dates at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center and eventually helped clinch Mercer's victory over league rival Wofford proved to be even more fruitful for junior Marceau Fouilhoux on Tuesday when the Frenchman was decorated with Southern Conference Player of the Week recognition.

Playing up a spot in the order due to injury, Fouilhoux, a product of Lyon, France, rebounded from an opening-set loss to Wofford's Ashe Ray at No. 2 singles with a 6-2 victory in the second set, then battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the third set to capture six-straight games and provide the match-clinching point in MU's 4-3 win over Wofford on Monday morning.

The SoCon opener for the Bears originally began on Sunday, but heavy rain that moved into the Middle Georgia in the late afternoon inevitably suspended the conclusion of the contest for 17 hours. Fouilhoux got a win in the Sunday portion part of the matchup as well when he teamed up with sophomore Nemanja Stefanovic for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Bears (3-9, 1-0 SoCon) will be back in action again on Sunday when they head to northwestern North Carolina to take on UNC Greensboro (4-8, 0-4). Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
