Mercer Holds Off High Point For 13-10 Win

Soltys and Lowinger with four goals each
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Kayla Soltys and Sami Lowinger combined to score eight of Mercer's 13 goals as the Bears defeated High Point, 13-10 on Saturday afternoon in High Point, North Carolina.
With the win, Mercer improves to 2-0 in Big South games. Shots in the game were 31-30 in favor of the Bears. The draw controls were also close with Mercer holding a 14-13 edge.
Soltys and Lowinger each had four goals on the day to lead Mercer. Maddi Koury had a six-point game with one goal and five assists. Abby Morrison led Mercer with six draw controls.
Defensively, Abby Soltys had an excellent game for the Bears with a team best six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kate Vanderlinde had 13 saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer got off to a bit of a slow start on beth ends as High Point jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with just under five minutes to play in the first quarter, before Lowinger's first goal of the game with six seconds to go in the quarter made it a 4-2 game.
Lowinger and Soltys scored to open up. the second quarter and tie the game at four. High Point quickly retook the lead, but Mercer would score the last three goals of the half to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.
A goal from Caroline Glus gave the Bears a 9-7 lead with just over five minutes to play in the third quarter. Mercer, took a 9-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
Mercerl led 10-9 with unde six minutes to go in the game. Then, the Bears rattled off three unanswered goals to all but put the game away with a 13-9 lead with less than two minutes to play.
