MacLeod Picks Up SoCon Player Of The Week Laurel

GREENVILLE, S.C. – A phenomenal week on the court proved to be even more fruitful for senior Samuel MacLeod on Tuesday afternoon when the Scotsman was decorated with Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, the league office announced.

MacLeod, a product of Glasgow, Scotland, tallied a combined 5-1 record on the court last week, including a perfect 3-0 clip in doubles play, to lead Mercer (6-10, 3-1 SoCon) to a 2-1 week, including a 4-3 home upset of 75^th-ranked Alabama State. MacLeod's lone loss in singles play was a three-set heartbreaker at league-leading East Tennessee State, but he rebounded by posting match-clinchers against both ASU and The Citadel.

MacLeod rallied back from an opening-set loss to Alabama State by registering 6-1 scores in the second and third sets. He won a 7-5 tiebreaker in his first set with The Citadel on Monday, and then finished off the straight sets win with a 7-5 triumph in the second set.

The Bears will close out their three-match home stand on Sunday when they welcome SoCon rival Chattanooga (8-2, 2-2) to the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center for a high noon matchup. Admission is free.
