Bears Win Final Road Game Of The Year Against Queens

CHARLOTTE – Graduate midfielder Chase Cope would lead scoring as the Bears go onto defeat Queens 10-9 in triple overtime.

Nine different players scored goals for the Bears (3-10). Jackson Hirschy, Dillon Bush, Jack Sullivan, Khory Reid, Ben Lever, Zach Basisty, Michael Frederick, and Quinn Kelley each added a goal for the Bears. Between the pipes graduate goalkeeper Colin Kelley notched 12 saves and five groundballs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter was a defensive quarter seeing two goals scores between both team. Michael Frederick struck first for the Bears at the 3:50 mark in the first quarter. The Royals battled back scoring their equalizing goal at the 1:22 mark in the first quarter.
The Royals started scoring off in the second, however Khory Reid dodged his defender, placing his shot by the Queens goalie. Ben Lever would increase the Bears lead by one at the 11:49 mark in the second quarter. Queens found its equalizer with 1:20 left, however the Royals would add one more with 14 seconds remaining in the second. Chase Cope scored his first goal of the game with five seconds remain in the half. The Bears and Royals were tied 4-4 at the break.
Queens started scoring again in the third, however the Bears would score two unassisted goals from Jack Sullivan and Quinn Kelley. The Bears led 6-5 heading into the final quarter of the play.
Queens scored three goals straight in the fourth to take a 7-8 lead over the Bears. Jackson Hirschy would bring the game level at 8-8, following a dodge from the wing. The Bears nor Royals would score util the final 3 minutes of the game. The Royals would score first at the 2:11 mark in the fourth. Zach Basisty would bring the game back to 9-9 following a putback shot after Cope's shot was saved. The score was 9-9 heading into overtime.
All three overtimes saw Colin Kelley make huge saves for Mercer. Saves which led to more offensive opportunities for the Bears offense. One of these opportunities would be from Chase Cope, who called game at the 3:05. The Bears defeated the Royals 10-9.

Kelley continues his 11-game streak of having 10+ saves in a game.
Chase Cope's final goal would be his 21st of the season.

Queens moves to 2-10 on the season and 1-7 in ASUN Conference Play.
