Bears Drop Pair In South Carolina

MACON – Beach volleyball had a tough afternoon on the final day of the Palmetto Invitational, falling 5-0 to UNC Wilmington before dropping their match against South Carolina 4-1.

The No. 2 pairing of Nicole O'Mara and Jordan Paddock took the first set to extra points, but ultimately fell 20-22, 17-21 to the Seahawks.

After swapping 21-17 decisions on court four, Liv Diaz and Kathryn Corbett fell to Sarah Thompson and Bri Haggerty 12-15 in the third set, while the No. 5 pairing of Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel took the opening frame 21-10, but dropped the next two 17-21, 8-15.

In their matchup against South Carolina, the Bears fought hard, with nearly every match going to extra points in at least one set.

On court five, Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel took control over the Gamecocks pair, winning in straight sets, 21-17, 21-19.

The No. 1 pair of Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie took the opening frame 24-22 but dropped the second set 14-21. The duo could not overcome Skylar Allen and Allison Coens, who took the third set 15-8.

Liv Diaz and Kathryn Corbett once again battled on court four, going into extra points in the first two sets. The duo dropped the opening frame 26-28, but bounced back in the second set 23-21, but fell to VB Trost and Morgan Downs 10-15 in the third.

The Bears now head to Birmingham, Ala. Saturday for the Blazer Beach Bash hosted by UAB.
