BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Bri Teegarden knifed through the school record mark in the 3000m Steeplechase for the second time in three weeks on the way to grabbing All-Southern Conference laurels on Monday evening at the 2024 SoCon Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
Â
Teegarden, a senior from Littleton, Colo., edged her 3-week-old school record in the event by 0.42 seconds on the way to a runner-up finish on Monday at the Samford Track/Soccer Complex. She registered a mark of 10:44.33 on April 19 at the Georgia Tech Invitational to bust a then-10-year-old program superlative in the event.
Â
Teegarden, who finished just more than three seconds off of the pace of Furman's Nicole Matysik in Monday's 3000m Steeplechase competition, was joined in the top 7 by both senior Patrycja Miazek and sophomore Olivia Jones who turned in personal best marks in the event as well.
Â
The Bears excelled in two other events in opening-day action at the SoCon Championships. Junior Jiya Hastings posted a personal best leap of 5.67m on the way to a fourth-place finish in the long jump. Junior Annette Rodriguez-Olvera scored three valuable team points for the Bears with a sixth-place tally in the 10000m Run.
Mercer will open up final-day action on Tuesday at the SoCon Championships with the 4x100m Relay at 4:10 p.m.
