Women's Soccer Heads To Kennesaw State Thursday For Season Opener

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's soccer team travels to Kennesaw, Georgia to take on Kennesaw State Thursday night in its 2024 season opener.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer leads the all-time series 5-3-2. The last meeting between the two teams was during the COVID season in the spring of 2021. Mercer defeated Kennesaw State in that game, 1-0.
PREVIEWING THE 2024 MERCER BEARS
The Bears will take the field for the first time in 2024 following a 2023 campaign that saw the Bears finish tied for fifth in the SoCon with a 10-6-5 overall record and 4-4-1Â record in SoCon play.
Mercer had the second best scoring offense in the conference last year scoring 42 goals in 21 games. Mercer returns the top two goal scorers in the SoCon from last season in Preseason All-Conference selections, Jada Moorman and Larkin Thomason. Last season, the duo each scored 11 goals on the season with Moorman adding seven assists for a conference best 29 points.
Also returning is redshirt junior goalie Lindsay Bell. Last season, Bell had a goals against average of 1.06, allowing just 22 goals in 21 games played. She also had the second most shutouts in the SoCon with eight, setting a career high.
There will also be new faces on the field as the Bears welcomed nine freshmen and one transfer to this year's team.
SCOUTING KENNESAW STATE
The 2024 season is Kennesaw State's first in Conference USA. The Owls previously had played in the Atlantic Sun. Last season the Owls went 4-8-7 overall and 3-5-3 in conference games. Kennesaw State played two SoCon teams last season, earning a scoreless tie with ETSU and losing to Samford, 3-0.
The Owls struggled a bit offensively last season scoring just 12 goals in 19 games. Fifth-year senior Tianna Rivera is the team's returning leading goal scorer from a season ago with three goals.
