
Thomason And Bell Named SoCon Players Of The Week

Thomason had four goals and Bell two shutouts last week for Mercer
Thomason started both games for Mercer last week as the Bears won both contests. She played 64 minutes in the team's 3-0 victory over Troy on Aug. 22, scoring a goal in the eighth minute of the contest. Three days later, the Scottsdale, Arizona, native recorded her first career hat trick as the Mercer defeated UNC Asheville, 4-0. The sophomore's first goal came in the ninth minute of the game. Thomason's next two goals came in the 63rd and 66th minutes, giving her the first hat trick for the Bears since teammate Kendall Cook achieved the feat against South Carolina State in 2022. Thomason currently leads the SoCon with nine points through the first four games of the season.
Bell played all 180 minutes in goal for Mercer in the team's victories last week, logging two shutouts in the process. The native of Marietta, Georgia, faced four shots against Troy and nine shots versus UNC Asheville. The redshirt junior had four saves in the UNC Asheville match en route to her third shutout of the season.
The Bears will look to continue its hot start at Georgia Southern on Thursday, Aug. 29, and at North Florida on Sunday, Sept. 1.
