SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's game will mark the 15th all-time meeting between Mercer and Georgia State. Georgia State leads the series 6-4-4 with the two teams playing to a 1-1 tie last year in Atlanta. The series has been very competitive as 14 of the 15 games between the two sides have either ended in a tie or were decided by one goal.
LAST TIME OUT
Trailing 3-1 with 12 minutes to play, Mercer got one goal back but was unable to find a game-tying goal as the Bears dropped a 3-2 contest to Illinois last Sunday from Betts Stadium.
In a highly competitive game which saw plenty of shots from both sides, Illinois was able to hold off the Bears to earn its fourth win of the season in what was the first all-time meeting between the two sides and first Big Ten opponent for Mercer since playing Indiana in 2009.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State enters Thursday's game with just one win in its six games this season. The Panthers were shutout in all three of its losses this season to three strong sides in Ole Miss, Florida, and defending SoCon champion Western Carolina.
In the Preseason Coaches Poll, the Panthers were picked to finish tied for fourth in the 14-team Sun Belt conference.
Georgia State is led by Preseason Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year in forward Aaliyah Faddoul. Faddoul was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year last season when she had 20 points (7G, 6A). This season, Faddoul leads the team with five points (2G, 1A) and in shots with 15 on the year.
With its tough non-conference schedule, Georgia State has managed just six goals in its six games thus far while allowing 11 goals. The Panthers have only two games with five or more shots on goal this season.
