Bears to Honor 11 Seniors Before Match With Southern Indiana On Sunday

MACON - The Mercer men's soccer team will honor 11 seniors ahead of Sunday's match against Southern Indiana. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by kick off at 11:05 a.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's match marks the second meeting between the Bears and Screaming Eagles. The first matchup came last year, with Mercer taking a 2-0 victory on the road in Evansville, Indiana. Barzee Blama and Fernando Arteaga provided the goals for Mercer.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer secured a 2-0 win over Memphis on Thursday in the home opener.
Carlos Santamaria had a big day for the Bears, scoring a goal and adding an assist. Sekou Agard added his team-leading third goal of the season, while the Mercer defense recorded their fourth consecutive shutout.
Santamaria opened the scoring early in the match, taking advantage of a loose ball in front of the net to put the Bears on top in the sixth minute. The goal was his first of the season.
The Mercer attack continued to apply pressure, putting up four shots on goal in the first 18 minutes. In the 32ndminute, the Bears broke through for another goal, this time by Sekou Agard off of a free kick from Santamaria.
The Mercer back line was tremendous once again, holding the Tigers to three shots on goal. Sekou Agard, Natnael McDonald and Woodi Pondeca each played the full 90 minutes. Trevor McMullen recorded three saves, moving his season save percentage to .813.
For the game, Mercer held 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams had nine shots and five corner kicks.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN INDIANA
Southern Indiana enters Sunday's match with an 0-4-0 record on the year. The Screaming Eagles have played their first four games on the road, with Sunday's match marking the final stop in their season opening five-game road trip.
Freshman Ahiro Nakamae leads the Screaming Eagles in goals with three. Andrew Klott has started three matches in goal, making 13 saves and allowing nine goals. Braden Matthews has also made a start at goalkeeper, posting three saves and two goals allowed.
