Bears Record Fifth Straight Shutout In Senior Day Win Over Southern Indiana

MACON – The Bears' defense continued their outstanding run, posting their fifth straight shutout in a 2-0 win over Southern Indiana on Senior Day.

Much like Thursday's home opening win over Memphis, Mercer got on the board early in the match. Sophomore Barzee Blama scored his first goal of the year in the ninth minute, taking a pass from Segun Afolabi at the top right of the box and burying it in the top left of the goal.

Following the goal, the Mercer attack continued to pressure the Southern Indiana back line with six shots in the first 24 minutes. In the 27^th minute, the Bears earned a corner kick, and Carlos Santamaria delivered a beautiful ball into the box for Sekou Agard to put into the top of the net with a header for another Mercer goal. The goal marked the fourth of the season for the senior and his second in the last two matches.

Mercer would continue to control the game from that point forward to secure the win. As a unit, the Bears defense held the Screaming Eagles to seven shots and just one on goal.

The clean sheet was the fifth in a row for Trevor McMullen, who lowers his season goals against average to 0.50. The senior made one save on the day to improve his save percentage to .824.

For the game, Mercer held the edge in shots at 20-7 and shots on goal at 6-1. Mercer had 12 corner kicks to just two for Southern Indiana.

The Bears move to 3-1-2 on the season with the win.
