Marie Bannmeyer Wins Match In Season Opener At Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. - Freshman Marie Bannmeyer picked up a singles victory, but the Mercer Bears dropped their match 6-1 at Georgia Tech to open the spring season on Monday afternoon in Atlanta.
After going 6-3 in singles matches in the fall, Bannmeyer picked up where she left off on Monday as she defeated Georgia Tech's Meera Jesudason, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0.
The day started off with Georgia Tech taking the doubles point as the Yellowjackets' Scarlett Nicholson and Kate Sharabura defeated Mercer's Jelena Gojkovic and Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-0. On court two, Georgia Tech's Alejandra Cruz and Given Roach defeated Emilia Cosatto and Tea Zivic, 6-1.
In singles play, Taly Licht of Georgia Tech defeated Zivic, 6-3, 6-1. Georgia Tech's Kylie Bilchev defeated Lea Kozierowski, 6-2, 6-1.
Geogia Tech clinched the match with their fourth point when Given Roach defeated Mercer's Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-3, 6-1. Bannmeyer then got a win for the Bears as she defeated Georgia Tech's Meera Jesudason, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0. The last singles match went to Georgia Tech's Alejandra Cruz who won 6-3, 7-5 over de Diego Quinones.
Mercer's next match was scheduled to be at Florida A&M on Sunday, Jan. 19, however the match has been postponed to a later date. The leaves the Bears' next scheduled match for Friday, Jan. 24 as Florida Gulf Coast visits Macon. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
