Bears Claim Dominant 80-46 Win Over The Citadel

Bears allow second fewest points in a game all season
MACON, Ga. – Marcus Overstreet recorded a double-double off the bench and Mercer rolled to a dominant 80-46 win at home over The Citadel Wednesday night from Hawkins Arena.
The 46 points allowed by the Bears were the second fewest allowed in a game this season (43 vs Trinity Baptist). Mercer dominated points in the paint on the night, 42-20. Offensively, Mercer was balanced getting 28 points from its bench with nine different players making a field goal. The Bears also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Bulldogs, 44-34.
Johnson led all players with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting (47.1%) and had a season high four steals defensively to lead the Bears. Marcus Overstreet had one of his best games as a Bear, recording a double-double and finishing one point shy of his season high with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting with 10 rebounds.
Ahmad Robinson finished with 16 points and a game high seven assists. Brady Shoulders and Cam Bryant each had seven points for the Bears.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
A short jump shot from Overstreet gave Mercer an early 9-5 lead. The Bulldogs battled for much of the opening 12 minutes of the game as they trailed by just one point at 15-14. However, Mercer closed the half on a 19-4 run over the final eight minutes of game action to take a 34-18 lead into the half. The long scoring run to close the half included a quick 10-0 run that was finished by a fastbreak dunk by Bryant and a tip-in from Overstreet.
2ND HALF
Another fastbreak dunk by Bryant extended Mercer's lead to 20 points at 45-25. A jumper, followed by a top of the key three-pointer from Robinson gave Mercer a 58-35 lead with nine minutes to play.
Then, Overstreet and Johnson combined to score 13 of Mercer's next 16 points as the Bears continued to stretch their lead to 74-40 with just under four minutes to play. The Bears closed out the home win with back-to-back three-pointers from TJ Grant and Angel Montas Jr.
NOTABLES
