Mercer Heads North To Tangle With UNC Greensboro

MACON – The Mercer women's basketball team will open up a two-game road trip through the Tar Heel State on Thursday when the Bears pack up their show and trek to Greensboro, N.C., to lock horns with UNC Greensboro inside Fleming Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Greensboro can still follow the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the UNCG athletics department. The game is also scheduled to be broadcasted live on ESPN+.

The Bears (6-14, 1-4 SoCon) have now dropped four-straight games following Saturday's 57-47 home loss to Furman. The Paladins shot better than 46 percent from the field and held the Bears without a field goal for the final three minutes of regulation to secure the outcome. Junior Ariana Bennett registered her second 21-point outing of the campaign in Saturday's setback to Furman, including 14 points (5-for-6 shooting) in the third quarter alone … Nahawa Diarra has averaged a team-best 11.8 points an outing in five Southern Conference games, while also tallying a team-best 2.6 assists per game in those contests as well … Freshman Talia Harris has scored 10 or more points in five of her last seven starts and is averaging 12.1 points per game across that span. Mercer has canned better than 42 percent of its field goal attempts in four of its previous nine road outings this season, including a 44-percent performance in a road victory at Kennesaw State on December 30 … The Bears have committed the third-fewest (62^nd NCAA) fouls per game (14.9) of any of the eight Southern Conference teams … MU has outscored opponents, 148-141, in the fourth quarter on the road this season. Mercer leads the all-time series with UNC Greensboro, 18-6, but neither side has captured a road game in the series since Mercer's 66-60 triumph in Fleming Gym on Jan. 13, 2022. The Bears are 10-2 all-time in Greensboro, N.C., and captured all five meetings in Fleming Gym from 2014-15 to 2018-19.

SCOUTING UNC GREENSBORO
The Spartans (13-6, 4-1 SoCon) have now captured six of their last seven outings after registering a 66-58 win at Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon. The Catamounts lugged a 51-46 lead into the final period, but UNCG connected on 55.6 percent of their field goal attempts across the final 10 minutes, while also going 10-for-11 from the line, to complete the comeback. Senior Jayde Gamble (45.2 percent) and junior Jalia Lee (47.6) have both canned better then 45 percent of their field goal attempts this season and lead the Spartans with 12.5 and 10.9 points per game, respectively … Senior Khalis Cain raked in Southern Conference Player of the Week nods on Monday after posting a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards in Saturday's win. UNC Greensboro has registered a perfect 9-0 record at home this season and will ride a 13-game home win streak into Thursday's action against the Bears … The Spartans have combined to shoot 45 percent from the field in their nine previous home games, and are out-scoring opponents by 31.4 points per game across that stretch … The Spartans are also +10.5 in the rebounding column in home games this season as well.
