Arteaga, Scheck Named Mercer Student-Athletes Of The Week

MACON – A multi-goal outing in a pivotal conference tilt and another top 10 performance on the links led to additional recognition on Wednesday when senior Fernando Arteaga and graduate student Katie Scheck were lauded with Mercer Student-Athlete of the Week laurels for the week ending October 12.

Arteaga, a product of Jonesboro, scored two goals and added an assist as the Bears picked up a key 5-4 Southern Conference win at Wofford. Arteaga scored on both of his shot attempts and logged more than 69 minutes in the outing.

A native of Ooltewah, Tenn., Scheck turned in a pair of below-par rounds at the Tennessee-hosted Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate on the way to logging her first top-10 finish of the campaign. She concluded the 3-day event in ninth place (among 78 players) after turning in a 1-under-par 70 in the first round and a 69 in the final round.
