Kyle Cuffe Jr. led Mercer with 17 points
ROCK HILL, SC – Mercer couldn't contain a hot-shooting Winthrop team who defeated the Bears, 105-69 Saturday afternoon from Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Kyle Cuffe Jr. led the way offensively for the Bears with a team high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Baraka Okojie also went 6-for-12 from the field and had 16 points.

Winthrop shot 34-for-66 (52%) from the field compared to Mercer who went 24-for-56 (43%) from the field. The Eagles made 11 three-pointers on the day going 11-for-25 (44%) from behind the arc.
Both teams got to the free throw line often, Mercer made 16-of-26 (62%) free throws while Winthrop made 26-of-37 (70%) of its free throws. Turnovers for the Bears caught up them as Mercer had 19 turnovers to Winthrop's 11. Winthrop scored 27 points off the Bears' turnovers.

1ST HALF
Mercer trailed 13-6 five minutes into the game. A strong drive and layup by Brady Shoulders made it a 21-13 game with the Eagles in front.
The Bears trailed 31-20 with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. Then, Mercer went on a 10-0 run with Cuffe and Quinton Perkins II accounting for all 10 points for the Bears to pull Mercer withing one at 31-30. However, the Eagles responded with a run of their own going on a 13-1 run to take a 44-31 lead with just under two minutes to play in the first half. The halftime score was 50-39.
2ND HALF
Winthrop extended its lead to 16 points at 64-48 before a fastbreak layup by Cuffe. From there, the Eagles were able to add to their lead to earn a 105-69 non-conference win over the Bears.
NOTABLES
+ Kyle Cuffe Jr. scored a season high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
