It will be the first all-time meeting between the two teams. This is the second of two games for the Bears as part of the SoCon/ASUN challenge. Mercer previously defeated ASUN member Lipscomb, 92-77 at home on Nov. 9.

Mercer couldn't contain a hot-shooting Winthrop team who defeated the Bears, 105-69 last Saturday from Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Kyle Cuffe Jr. led the way offensively for the Bears with a team high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Baraka Okojie also went 6-for-12 from the field and had 16 points.

Last season, Eastern Kentucky went 18-14 overall and 12-6 in the ASUN. The Colonels finished tied for fourth in the conference. Eastern Kentucky lost three starters and 75 percent of its scoring from last year's team. The Colonel's leading returning scorer from last season is senior guard Turner Buttry who averaged 8.7 points per game last season. This year, through four games Buttry is averaging 8.5 points per game. He scored a season high 14 points in Eastern Kentucky's loss to Western Kentucky. Graduate forward Montavious Myrick was chosen as the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the Preseason All-ASUN Team by league head coaches. The Colonels were picked to finish second in the ASUN this season in a poll of league media and chosen third in the coaches poll. This season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 85.3 points per game which ranks second in the ASUN and is allowing 83.0 points per game. The Colonels are shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from three-point range. Eastern Kentucky's leading scorer is Montavious Myrick who is averaging 13.8 points per game. He is also tied for the team lead in rebounding at 6.8 rebounds per game.
