
Mercer Wins Fifth Straight After 100-50 Win Over Oglethorpe

Bears push win streak to five straight games
MACON, GA – Bendji Pierre poured in a career high tying 17 points off the bench to pace the Mercer Bears offensively in a dominant 100-50 win over Oglethorpe Sunday afternoon from Hawkins Arena.
The Bears (7-2, 0-0) have now won five straight games and improve to 5-0 at home this season.

For the game, Mercer went 40-of-82 (48.8%) from the field and 14-for-46 (30.4%) from three-point range. Oglethorpe shot just 19-for-63 (30.2%) from the field and 8-for-33 (24.2%) from deep.
The Bears had a significant size advantage throughout their lineup and used it to their advantage by outrebounding the Stormy Petrels, 54-37. The Bears had 20 offfensive rebounds to just 10 for Oglethorpe. Points in the paint were 50-18, Bears.
Pierre led all scorers with 17 points and six rebounds. He went 4-for-7 from three-point range. Armani Mighty finished with his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. All 12 Mercer players who got in the game scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
A steal and fastbreak layup by Zaire Williams gave Mercer an early 13-5 lead. Mercer would go on a 15-2 run to take a 31-11 lead. During the run, Pierre and Tristan Gross combined to score 13 of Merceer's 15 points.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Kyle Cuffe Jr. and Jaydon Cole extended Mercer's lead to 47-19. Mercer would go into the half leading 57-26.
2ND HALF
Mercer's defense was dominant for the first nine minutes of the first half. The Bears began the second half on a 24-4 run to take an 81-30 lead with 11 minutes to play in the game. Mighty and Pierre scored 13 of the last 15 points for the Bears during the run.
Braeden Carlsen made his second three-pointer of the game to give Mercer a 91-41 lead with five minutes to play. Freshman Pero Zubac scored his first career points in the final minutes of the game as Mercer cruised to a 100-50 win.
