
Zivic Wins Third Set Tiebreaker To Clinch 4-3 Mercer Win Over Army

COLUMBUS, Ga. - With the match tied at three, Tea Zivic came through with a three set winner to give Mercer the 4-3 win over Army Sunday morning in Columbus, Georgia on the campus of Columbus State University.
The morning got started with doubles matches where Army's Vennmukiil Mathivana and Allison Harris defeated Mercer's Jelena Gojkovic and Tea Zivic, 6-2. The Bears were then forced to win the other two doubles matches and Dzhastina Mikhnova and Marie Bannmeyer got things done on court one with a 6-2 win over Army's Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans.
That meant the doubles point came down to the court two match between Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg and Army's Isabella Brilliant and Madison Smith. In a very close match, Army's Brilliant and Smith won in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5).
Jelena Gojkovic got things started in singles play for the Bears when she defeated the Black Knight's Paulina Feoli, 6-2, 6-2 to tie the match at one. On court six, Army's Isabella Brilliant defeated Kennedi Jones, 6-0, 6-4.
Marie Bannmeyer defeated Army's Madison Smith, 6-3, 6-4 to once again tie the match at two. On court one, Marina de Diego Quinones earned a win over Army's Cooper Jackson, 6-4, 6-0 as she closed out the win with a dominant performance in the second set to put the Bears one point away from the win.
Vennmukiil Mathivana of Army kept the Black Knight's alive in a tough match against Dzhastina Mikhnova, 7-6 (9), 6-4. That meant the match came down to a battle on court three between Zivic and Emily Ruckno of Army. Zivic came out on top in the three set match, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 to give the Bears the 4-3 win.
Next up for Mercer is a an in-state match at Kennesaw State on Thursday, Feb. 20. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
