
Mercer Falls On The Road To Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match at No. 65 Georgia Southern, 4-0 Wednesday afternoon in Statesboro, Gerogia.
The morning got started with doubles matches where Georgia Southern's Hannah Eifert and Franzi Heinemann defeated Mercer's Jelena Gojkovic and Tea Zivic, 6-0. The Eagles would then clinch the doubles point on court one where the Eagles' Juliette Nask and Evelyn Warkentin defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-1.
The last doubles match went unfinished on court two where Georgia Southern's Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman held a 4-2 lead over Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg.
With Mercer playing again Thursday morning, just three of the singles matches finished starting with Georgia Southern's Nanaka Kijima who won the first singles point for the Eagles on court six when she defeated Ines Hömberg 6-0, 6-3. On court three, Franzi Heinemann of Georgia Southern defeated Tea Zivic, 6-3, 6-3 to give Georgia Southern a 3-0 lead.
Georgia Southern's Amelie Rosadoro clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Marie Bannmeyer. On court one, Marina de Diego Quinones was one point away from forcing a third set as she led 5-2 in the second set over Georgia Southern's Lisen Rinman, before the match was called.Â
Georgia Southern's Juliette Nask won the first set 6-3 over Mikhnova on court two and the second set was tied at five before the match went unfinished. On court five Jelena Gojkovic forced a third set against Mackenzie Leopold of the Eagles after Gojkovic won the second set 6-4. The match went unfinished before either player won a point in the third set.
Next up for Mercer is a quick turnaround as the Bears will host a match Thursday morning against Queens. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
