
Mercer Shuts Out Queens, 7-0

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team shut out a shorthanded Queens team, 7-0 Thursday morning from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Queens dressed four healthy players, meaning the Bears won one doubles match and two singles matches by forfeit to begin the match. In the two doubles matches, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg didn't lose a game in a dominant 6-0 win over Jett Coetzee and Audrey Serbto of Queens to clinch the doubles point for the Bears. The other doubles match was close between Mercer's Dzhastina Mikhnova and Marie Bannmeyer and Queens' Lucy Hogan and Andreea Onitoiu. Ultimately, Mikhnova and Bannmeyer came out on top with a 7-5 win.
In singles matches, Jelena Gojkovic was great in her win over Queens' Audrey Serb, 6-1, 6-0. On court three, Marie Bannmeyer defeated Jett Coetzee of Queens, 6-1, 6-2 to put Mercer up 5-0.
Dzhastina Mikhnova battled for a 6-4, 6-3 win over Andreea Onitoiu of Queens. The last singles match to finish was on court one between Marina de Diego Quinones and Queens' Lucy Hogan. After de Diego Quinones won the first set 6-3, Hogan fought hard in the second set to force a tiebreaker. In the end, de Diego Quinones won the tiebreaker 7-3 to win the match, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Mercer will play its third match in four days on Saturday, March 1 as in-state foe Georgia State makes the short trip down to Macon. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
