
Mercer Defeats Georgia State, 4-1

MACON, Ga. - Marina de Diego Quinones clinched the match for the Mercer women's tennis team as they defeated in-state foe Georgia State, 4-1 Saturday afternoon from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Tea Zivic and Jelena Gojkovic got things started for the Bears with a resounding 6-0 win over Georgia State's Pragnya Kumar and Zeynep Erbakan. Then, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg also shut out their opponents, Sara Radojevic and Luciana Galvez of Georgia State in a 6-0 win to clinch the doubles points for the Bears.
The last doubles match went unfinished on court one between Mercer's Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova and Georgia State's Maria Paredes and Francesca Miglio. Bannmeyer and Mikhnova led 4-2 before the match was called.
In singles matches, Tea Zivic won the first match over Zeynep Erbakan of Georgia State, 6-2, 6-0. Lea von Kozierowski defeated Georgia State's Defne Erbakan, 6-3, 6-1 on court six to put Mercer in front 3-0.
On court four, Luciana Galvez of Georgia State won the first match of the day for the Panthers over Marie Bannmeyer, 6-3, 6-1. However, Marina de Diego Quinones clinched the match for the Bears on court one with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sara Radojevic of Georgia State.
The last two singles matches went unfinished with the match clinched for Mercer. The match on court two between Mikhnova and Georgia State's Francesca Miglio was in the third set with Miglio leading 2-0 in the set. On court five, Jelena Gojkovic was one game away from forcing a third set as she was up, 5-3 in the second set against Georgia State's Pragnya Kumar.
Next up for Mercer is the SoCon opener on Monday, March 3. The Bears will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to play ETSU. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
