SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A torrid week at the plate that included a sextet of extra-base hits led to additional recognition on Monday afternoon for outfielder Hallie Langford when the redshirt senior was crowned Southern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced.
Â
Langford, a native of Trenton, Fla., rattled off a .533 (8-for-15) batting average in five starts last week to go along with nine RBI and six runs scored. She compiled a 1.067 slugging and .563 on-base percentages (1.630 OPS), while also going 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts. Six of her eight hits on the week went for extra bases, including her second career home run (her first with the Orange & Black) in MU's midweek contest with Georgia State.
Â
Langford began her weekly tear with the centerfield blast against Georgia State, but tallied at least one hit in four games last week. She doubled twice and drove in four runs on a 2-for-3 night against Alabama State, and followed that up with a perfect 4-for-4 showing in the win over Middle Tennessee State that also included a pair of doubles. She also doubled and scored Mercer's lone run on Sunday against Jacksonville.
Â
The Bears (7-6) will close out a six-game home stand on Wednesday when they take on in-state rival Georgia Southern (8-5) at Sikes Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and admission is free.
