MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will open up a short two-match home stand on Tuesday when the Bears lace up to take on visiting Belmont at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center. First serves are scheduled for 10 a.m. and admission is free.
Â
Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the match in progress for free via a live statistics link provided by the MU athletics department. Following Tuesday's outing, the Orange & Black will return home again on March 17 to battle James Madison.
Â
Mercer (4-5) had its two-match win skein snapped with a tough 6-1 road loss to in-state rival Georgia Southern on Saturday, while the Bruins (5-8) put an end to a three-match losing streak with a 4-3 home triumph over Lipscomb on Friday afternoon. Tuesday's matchup at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center will mark the fifth meeting in the 17-year-old series between the two squads, but the first since Belmont's 4-3 victory in Macon on March 23, 2012.
Â
The Orange & Black is still led on the doubles court by junior tandem Amen Prince Gandonou and Hod'Abalo Isak Padio who have rattled off a 19-8 mark on the doubles courts this season, including a 4-4 mark during the spring dual meet season. Padio and fellow junior Nemanja Stefanovic have both racked up four singles wins across the dual meet schedule.
Â
Belmont's strength in doubles will come from its No. 2 tandem of Esunge Ndumbe and Charlie Robin who has already posted five wins during spring action. Ndumbe, a Ferris State transfer, has already tallied seven wins at No. 1 singles for the Bruins.
