Belmont Battles Back To Overtake Mercer

MACON – Junior Nemanja Stefanovic gave home-standing Mercer a 3-1 lead on the team scoreboard with a straight-sets victory at No. 1 singles, but visiting Belmont got big three-set triumphs on Court Nos. 2 and 4 to register a 4-3 comeback win on Tuesday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
The setback snapped a two-match home win streak for the Bears (4-6) who will close out the non-conference portion of their 2025 spring schedule against James Madison on Monday in Macon. It was the second-straight win for the Bruins (6-8) who opened up a three-match road trip against the Orange & Black.
The Bears posted a pair of convincing decisions to easily take the doubles point as Stefanovic and Marceau Fouilhoux yielded just one game to cruise on Court No. 2, while Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Amen Prince Gandonou registered a 6-3 victory over Sabi Roi and Stefan Vedovelli on Court No. 1.
Eli Mizerski toughed out a three-sets win at No. 6 singles to knot things up at two apiece on the team scoreboard, but Stefanovic gave the Bears the lead again minutes later after finishing off a 6-2, 6-4 win over Esunge Ndumbe on Court No. 1. Belmont would turn the table after that, however.
Charlie Robin battled back from an opening-set loss to Padio on Court No. 2 with 7-5 and 6-3 wins in sets two and three, respectively, to knot the team score up again. Fouilhoux captured a 7-5 win in his opening set with Morgan Woodson on Court No. 4, but Woodson turned in a 6-2 win in the second set, and then won a 9-7 tiebreaker in the decisive third set.
