Caroline Glus led Mercer with four goals
MACON, Ga. - Caroline Glus scored four goals for the third consecutive game, but Mercer dropped a 22-9 contest to No. 6 Florida at home on Saturday afternoon from Five Star Stadium.
Florida led 9-5 at halftime and used a big third quarter in which they outscored the Bears, 8-1 to take control of the game. Shots were 37-18, Florida and shots on goal were 29-15, Florida.
The Gators, who entered the game winning just 45 percent of their draw controls were excellent in the draw circle against the Bears winning 72.7 percent of the draws. Draw controls were 24-9 Gators. The Bears committed just 10 turnovers to 14 for Florida.
Glus led Mercer offensively with four goals. Gabby Brisbin was the other Bear who had a multi-goal game with two goals.
Defensively, Sarah Leahy led Mercer with three caused turnovers. Abby Morrison had a team high four draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida started fast scoring the first three goals of the game. The Bears got two quick goals in less than 20 seconds from Sofia D'Angelo and Gabby Brisbin to make it a 4-3 lead for the Gators.
Florida would then go on a 5-1 run to take a 9-4 lead, before Brisbin scored her second of the game from the free position with less than one minute to go in the first half as Mercer trailed 9-5 at halftime.
Glus scored her hat trick just over one minute into the second half to bring Mercer within three at 9-6. However, the Gators began to gain momentum offensively by scoring eight unanwered goals and won 8-of-9 draw controls in the third quarter to take a 17-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
Mercer got fourth quarter goals from Abby Morrison, Glus and Sami Lowinger, but it wasn't enough as Florida defeated the Bears, 22-9.
NOTABLES
Mercer returns home on Wednesday, March 26 to take on Jacksonville. First draw is set for 3 p.m.
