
Mercer Treks To Statesboro On Saturday, Faces Georgia Southern

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will resume its 2024-25 regular season schedule on Saturday when the Bears make the short trip to Statesboro to tangle with in-state rival Georgia Southern at the Wallis Tennis Center. First serves are scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Bears (4-4) will ride a wave of success into Statesboro having captured three of their last four outings, including a 4-2 victory over visiting Queens to close out the month of February. The Eagles (8-5), likewise, will tote an impressive run into the weekend, one that has them winning five of their last six, including a 6-1 throttling of UAB on Sunday in Birmingham, Ala.

Georgia Southern is 28-5 against MU in a series that dates all the way back to the 1973-74 season. The Eagles will also ride a five-match series win streak into the next meeting, while the Orange & Black will be vying for its first win over GSU since Jan. 23, 2018.

Newcomer Hod'Abalo Isak Padio boasts a team-leading 14 singles victories on the men's side, while junior Nemanja Stefanovic sports 13 singles wins, including four during the spring portion of the 2024-25 campaign. On the doubles courts, Padio and fellow newcomer Amen Prince Gandonou have teamed up for 16 doubles wins, including four across the 8-match-old dual schedule.

Following Saturday's action in Statesboro, Mercer will open up a two-match home stand on Monday against Belmont (5-8) at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Start time has been scheduled for 2 p.m. and admission is free.
