
Mercer Falls To Chattanooga, 76-61 In SoCon Tournament

Jah Quinones led Mercer with a season high 17 points
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Jah Quinones scored a season high 17 points, but Mercer fell 76-61 to the No. 1 seed, Chattanooga in the SoCon Tournament Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon from Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
Quinones had an efficient day shooting on his way to scoring 17 points as he went 7-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range. He also was solid defensively with four steals in the game. Alex Holt scored his 1,000th career point in his final collegiate game and finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Mercer went 23-for-58 (39.7%) from the field while the Mocs were 27-for-57 (47.4%) from the field. Mercer held Chattanooga to just 3-for-14 (21.4%) from deep in the first half, but the Mocs shot it better from behind the arc in the second half going 5-for-9 (55.6%).

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
A layup from Holt brought Mercer within two at 10-8 in the opening minutes. A layup from Quinones capped a quick 7-0 run for the Bears who took a 20-14 lead.
The two teams continued to go back-and-forth with neither able to gain separation in the first half. Robinson connected on a jumper with more than four minutes to go in the first half to give Mercer a 30-26 lead. In the closing seconds of the half, Robinson got downhill and laid one off the glass for the bucket to send Mercer into halftime up 34-28.
2ND HALF
Chattanooga came out of halftime and made shots at a high rate to begin the second half. The Mocs went on a 20-4 run to take a 48-38 lead. A jumper from Shoulders brought the Bears within five at 50-45 with more than 11 minutes to play.
Chattanooga responded with a run of their own to go up 63-48 with seven minutes to play. Mercer got back within eight, but Chattanooga was able to hold off the Bears to advance in the SoCon Tournament.
