Hastings Blitzes School Record At UCF Knights Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Jiya Hastings eclipsed a 7-year-old school record in the Long Jump on the way to a fifth-place finish and three of her teammates registered personal bests in their respective disciplines to highlight a productive day for the Mercer track & field team on Friday at the UCF Knights Invite.

Hastings mark of 5.90 meters in the Long Jump shattered former MU standout Sydney Campbell's school-record jump of 5.85 meters at the Auburn Tiger Classic on April 14, 2018, while also besting her previous personal best in the event by 0.23 meters. Kamryn Copeland (26^th place) also eclipsed her previous personal best in the discipline by 0.14 meters.

The story was the same for the Bears in the 200m Dash as both redshirt junior Charity Obazughanmwen and sophomore Kendyl Maddox posted personal-best times. Obazughanmwen edged her previous personal record by 0.02 seconds on the way to 26^th place, while Maddox bested her previous mark by 0.24 seconds and crossed in 54^th place.

Mercer will continue action at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex on Saturday with entries in five more events beginning with the Triple Jump at 10 a.m.
