ORLANDO, Fla. – Mercer's 4x100m Relay squad bested its season-best mark on the way to a sixth-place finish, while redshirt freshman Lauryn McDougald obliterated her personal-best mark amid an 18th-place showing in the Triple Jump, to highlight action for the Bears on final-day action at the UCF Knights Invite.
Mercer bettered the Southern Conference's fourth-best time in the sport's premier relay event by 0.08 seconds. McDougald's leap in the Triple Jump – which topped her previous personal record by 0.43 meters - boosted her among the SoCon's top 10 performances in the discipline this season.
Redshirt junior Charity Obazughanmwen, who ran the second leg of MU's relay race earlier in the day, finished off her weekend with a 15th-place finish in the 400m Dash as well. She currently ranks fifth among SoCon student-athletes in the event with her time of 55.96 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational last month.
Mercer will get its final tune-up for the season-ending SoCon Championships next weekend, May 2-3, when it heads to Jacksonville, Fla., for the North Florida-hosted East Coast Relays.
