SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – Despite a seven-goal performance from the Bears in the second quarter, the Mercer men's lacrosse team fell to Utah 16-10 in Salt Lake City this afternoon.

Eight different Bears found the back of the net against the Utes with Luke Fox leading the way with two goals and an assist. Dillon Bush added a goal of his own, reaching 25 goals on the season and two assists with the remaining goals coming from Dylan McKelvy, Jack Sullivan, Will Zylstra, Michael Frederick, Ganon Cope, Christian Laureano and Christopher Cappelmann. Between the pipes for the Bears, Rand Paddack posted 18 saves on Utah's 34 shots on goal (.471) to keep the Utes within reach.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Utes scored the first four goals of the game until McKelvy found the back of the net at the 4:18 mark. The Utes came back with four goals before the end of the quarter along with a goal off of an impressive spin move from Zylstra.
12 goals were scored between both squads in the second quarter with Mercer claiming seven of them. Bush started the rally for Mercer at the 11:13 mark and was shortly followed up by back-to-back goals from Sullivan and Frederick. With under two minutes left on the clock in the first half, Mercer recorded three goals including a buzzer beater from Cappelmann to put the Bears within three heading into halftime.
The third quarter was a complete opposite from the second quarter with just two total goals scored between both teams. Fox hit the second buzzer beater of the game off of an assist from Bush to put the score 13-10 heading into the final 15 minutes of the game.
Scoring continued to slow down on both sides of the field with only three goals scored in the fourth quarter, all coming from Utah. The Utes were able to hold off Mercer and extend their lead to secure their second conference win of the season.

TOP BEARS

Fox scored two goals for the second time this season, the first coming against Hampton in the season opener.
Bush recorded a season-high two assists.
Paddack's 18-save performance is the senior's second-highest of the season.

NOTABLES

Bush keeps his scoring streak alive, scoring at least one goal in all ten contests this season.
The Utes move to 2-0 in the ASUN while Mercer moves to 1-1.
