Mercer Leads After First Round At Brickyard Collegiate

Emilia Väistö and Eujin Pyon are co-leaders at 1-over par

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team leads the Brickyard Collegiate after the first round with a team score of 9-over, 297 after Sunday's first round from the Brickyard Golf Club.

Eujin Pyon and Emilia Väistö are co-leaders after they each carded a first round of 1-over, 73. Väistö carded a hole-in-one on the 175-yard par 3, fifth. Her four birdies over her 18 holes were tied for the most in the 63-player field.

"I'm happy with the start we had today," said Mercer head coach Michele Drinkard. "It was a blustery day which made some shots and scoring difficult. We had good energy and I am proud of the fight we showed."

The Bears have a seven shot lead over second place Seminole State. Mercer had 13 birdies on Sunday which was tied for the most in the 10-team field with Xavier. Mercer had the lowest team score on the par 3's and par 4's as the Bears went 1-over for the day on the par 3's and 10-over on the par 4's which was 11 shots better than the next best team on the par 4's.

Play will resume with the second round on Tuesday at 9 a.m. via a shotgun start.
