
Harris Logs All-SoCon Finish In 10000m Run

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Nikki Harris registered a time of 37:34.86 on the way to picking up All-Southern Conference honors with a third-place finish in the 10000m Run, while redshirt junior Charity Obazughanmwen qualified for the finals in two sprint events, to highlight action for the Mercer track & field team on Monday at the Southern Conference Championships.

It is the first career all-conference accolades for Harris who will compete in one of her specialty events, the 5000m Run, on Tuesday at the Samford Soccer/Track Complex. Junior Olivia Jones and freshman Abbie Kallbreier both scored valuable team points as well on Monday with fifth- and seventh-place performances, respectively, in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Obazughanmwen posted a pair of third-place finishes in the prelims of both the 200m Dash and 400m Dash on opening-day action and will compete for league championships in both disciplines on Tuesday in Alabama.

The Bears will close out action at the SoCon Championships on Tuesday with competition in eight events beginning with the 4x100m Relay at noon. Mercer has entries in four sprint/hurdles event finals on Tuesday as well.
