MACON, Ga. - Mercer women's lacrosse head coach Samantha Eustace has announced the addition of Lauren Messinese to the staff as an assistant coach.
Messinese joins the Mercer program after playing five seasons with the Rutgers University women's lacrosse program. After redshirting her freshman year, Messinese went on to play in 45 games as a defender for the Scarlet Knights. She finished her career as a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection with 35 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
Messinese's experience playing in the Big Ten and insight of the game will be a valuable component for Mercer women's lacrosse student-athletes.
"We are thrilled to welcome Lauren to the Mercer Bears family," said Coach Eustace. "She brings a wealth of knowledge as a part of the Rutgers women's lacrosse program. Her passion and energy will make a big impact on our team."
Rutgers women's lacrosse head coach Melissa Lehman saw Messinese's growth as a student-athlete in her five years at Rutgers and is excited to see Messinese begin her coaching career with the Bears.
"I'm incredibly proud of Lauren as she begins her coaching career at Mercer," said Coach Lehman. "As a player her lacrosse IQ was her strength —like having a coach out there—and she has a natural ability to teach and elevate those around her. Her passion for coaching has been evident for a long time, and I know she's going to thrive in this next chapter. Mercer is lucky to have her."
