NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The men's soccer team concluded their first road trip of the season with a 2-0 loss to Lipscomb (1-1-1). Mercer (1-2-1) was shut out for the second straight match.
In the first half, defense reigned supreme. The pairing of Anthony Thambwe and Gavin Morgan completely smothered the Bisons, only allowing two shots the entire half. The first 23 minutes after the break were much of the same. Every time you looked up, Morgan was right there to shut down Lipscomb's attack.
However, the Bisons broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when Levi Jones used the back of his heel to redirect a pass into the back of Mercer's net. Jones doubled the Bisons' lead in the 75th minute.
Despite controlling possession for the remainder of the half, the Bears could not find nylon.
Liam Corr led the Bears with three total shots. Manza Masamuna, Bryce Griffith and Ethan Manzella recorded the only shots on goal for Mercer.
The Bears return to Betts Stadium on Wednesday, September 3 to take on in-state rival Georgia State. Mercer heads into the mid-week battle undefeated at home in 2025.
