
Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener At Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its season opener 7-0 at Clemson Friday morning from the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in Clemson, South Carolina.
In the season opener for both teams, it was the Tigers who came out on top to start their season.
Clemson started the morning with a pair of 6-1 victories in doubles to pick up the doubles point, while the double match on court one went unfinished. Clemson's Gaia Parravicini and Romana Cisovska defeated Mercer's Sofia Tsitavets and Tea Zivic on court two. Over on court three, Clemson's Talia Gatenby and Ria Bhakta defeated Mercer's Marie Bannmeyer and Jelena Gojkovic.
The doubles match on court one that went unfinished was 4-1 before being called in favor of Clemson's Jade Groen and Rinon Okuwaki who were playing against Marie de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg.
In singles play, Clemson's Jade Groen defeated de Diego Quinones on court one, 6-0, 6-2. On court five, Talia Gatenby of Clemson defeated Marie Bannmeyer, 6-1, 6-2 to put the Tigets ahead 3-0.
Ria Bhakta of Clemson won the match for the Tigers on court four with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jelena Gojkovic. On court two Clemson's Romana Cisovska defeated Tea Zivic, 6-3, 6-0. On court four, Clemson's Rinon Okuwaki defeated Ines Hömber, 6-1, 6-2. The final singles match went to Clemson's Gaia Parravicini who won a battle in the first set and finished the job in the second set with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mercer's Valentine Abide Talaki.
Next up for the Bears is the home opener on Saturday January, 24 at 10 a.m. against College of Charleston.
