Mercer Rolls In Home Opener Over College Of Charleston, 7-0

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team rolled to a commanding 7-0 win over College of Charleston in the home opener for the Bears Saturday morning in Macon.
The win is the first for the Bears in four all-time meetings against College of Charleston.
Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic started the match with a 6-4 win over Harper Santos and Riley Trinkle of College of Charleston. The Bears then clinched the doubles point when Ines Hömberg and Maria de Diego Quinones defeated Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato of College of Charleston on court one, 6-3.Â
In singles play, Marina de Diego Quinones defeated College of Charleston's Sia Cariov, 6-2, 6-2 on court one. On court three, Jelena Gojkovic won a close match over Riley Trinkle, 6-4, 7-5.
Ines Hömberg clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-3, 7-5 win over College of Charleston's Marra Bruce on court four. Valentine Abide Talaki won her first match as a Bear in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Harper Santos.
Marie Bannmeyer won her match on court five in three sets over Isabella De Luise of College of Charleston, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. The last match of the day on court two went three sets where ultimately Tea Zivic won 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-8.
Up next for the Bears is a trip to Tallahassee, Florida to play Florida A&M on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The match is scheduled to start at noon.
