
Mercer Defeats Florida A&M, 4-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -Â The Mercer women's tennis team earned its first win on the road this season with a 4-1 win over Florida A&M Tuesday afternoon in Tallahassee, Florida.
Mercer dropped the first doubles match to finish on court three. Florida A&M's Reagan Harris and Gabrielle Pierce defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Jelena Gojkovic, 6-3. With the Bears needing to win the next two doubles matches, Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic got the Bears half way there with a 6-4 win over Luiza Eidelvein and Veronica Rodriguez.
The doubles point came down to a close match on court one where ultimately, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines. Hömberg won 7-5, over Larissa Silva and Genesis Whitelock to give the Bears the doubles point.
In singles play, Marina de Diego Quinones played well to earn a 6-1, 6-0 win over Florida A&M's Veronica Rodriguez. On court two, Tea Zivic defeated Genesis Whitelock, 6-1, 6-2 to make the score 3-0, Mercer.
Florida A&M stayed alive when Reagan Harris came from behind to defeat Sofiya Tsitavets, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. Ines Hömberg clinched the match for the Bears on court six with a 6-3, 6-2 win overÂ

The other two singles matches went unfinished with the Bears having clinched the match. Marie Bannmeyer's match on court five was in the third set with Bannmeyer leading 4-1. The other match that went unfinished was on court four with Jelena Gojkovic having won the first set, the match was called before either side won the second set.
Up next for the Bears is a home match against North Georgia on Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
