
Shani van Rooyen Signs With Mercer Women's Golf

MACON, Ga. – Head coach Michele Drinkard and the Mercer women's golf team has announced the signing of Shani van Rooyen to the team's 2026 signing class.
Van Rooyen is from George, South Africa and will join the Bears as an incoming junior following two seasons at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas.
"We are excited for Shani to join our Bear family," said Coach Drinkard. "Simply put, Shani is a competitor, the ultimate team player and is very driven to pursue excellence in everything she takes on. She is a long ball striker and will add depth to our roster. We look forward to her arrival this fall."
Last season van Rooyen and Odessa College were the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Champions. The team won nine tournaments throughout the season and won the NJCAA Southwest District Championship.
Before joining Odessa College in the fall of 2024, van Rooyen represented the Southern Cape Golf Union in in her hometown of South Africa. In 2022 and 2023 she was selected for the Southern Cape Premier IPT Team. She was also the 2022-23 Southern Cape Women's Overall Order of Merit Winner.
Van Rooyen won 10 regional individual titles from 2022-24 while playing in the Southern Cape Golf Union. Van Rooyen was a 4-time Mossel Bay Ladies Champion as well.
Van Rooyen is a 4.0 student majoring in business. Her parents are Elizabeth and Petrus van Rooyen. Shani has a brother, Darius and sister, Elzemieke.
