
Bears Win At Home Again In Dominant Fashion Over Young Harris

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team moved to 5-0 at home this season with a 7-0 win over Young Harris Wednesday morning in Macon from the Copelan Tennis Complex.
Mercer won all three doubles matches to start the day out strong. On court one, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg defeated Tuva Asplund and Futaba Saito of Young Harris, 6-2. Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic won all six games over Young Harris' Maud Scholten and Callie Stanfield in a 6-0 win. The last doubles match on court three between Marie Bannmeyer and Antonia Schweigel and Holly Ashford and Viviana Gomez Lopez of Young Harris was a competitive match that ended up going to the Bears' duo.
In singles play, Marie Bannmeyer played two consistent sets in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Young Harris' Viviana Gomez Lopez. On court three, Sofiya Tsitavets battled with Young Harris'Â
Tuva Asplund in the first set before a more dominant second set as Tsitavets came away with a 6-4, 6-0 win to make the score, 3-0 Bears.
Marina de Diego Quinones earned a 6-4, 6-2 win on court one over Futaba Saito of Young Harris to clinch the match for the Bears. Jelena Gojkovic defeated Lexie Gillespie of Young Harris, 6-2, 6-2. Marie Bannmeyer also earned a 6-2, 6-2 win on court four over Viviana Gomez Lopez.
Ines Hömberg won her seventh match in a row (All in two sets) to improve her singles record to 7-1 on the season after winning 6-1, 6-4 over Young Harris' Holly Ashford. The last match of the day was won by Tea Zivic on court two over Maud Scholten of Young Harris, 7-5, 6-3.
Up next for the Bears is a trip down to Fort Myers, Florida to play Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, Feb. 20. The match is scheduled to begin at 10Â a.m.
