
Bears Go On Road To Defeat Troy, 4-2

TROY, Ala. – The Mercer women's tennis team picked up a solid win on the road over Troy, 4-2, Saturday afternoon from Troy, Alabama.

In doubles play, Marie Bannmeyer and Antonia Schweigel got things started with a 6-2 win over Troy's Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate. The Trojans forced a deciding match after Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo of Troy won 6-4 on court two over Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic.
The doubles point came down to the match on court one which was a back-and-forth, tightly played match. In the end, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg earned a 7-6(2) win over Troy's Valeria Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis.
In singles action, Ines Homberg won the first match to go final convincingly in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Veena Nazar of Troy. Sofiya Tsitavets picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win on court three over Troy's Valeria Avdeeva, which made the score 3-0, Mercer.
Alexia Zarate got Troy on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marie Bannmeyer. Troy's Leena Metwally got the Trojans closer after she defeated Tea Zivic, 6-4, 6-3 on court two.
Antonia Schweigel got the job done on court six for the Bears by defeating Troy's Sama Hindawy, 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Bears with the score 4-2. The match on court one between Marina de Diego Quinones and Maria Guirguis of Troy went unfinished in the third set.

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow in Macon, when the Mercer welcomes Georgia Southern to the Copelan Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
