
Mercer Drops Match To Georgia Southern, 4-1

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match Saturday afternoon to Georgia Southern, 4-2, from the Copelan Tennis Complex.

The Bears got off to a good start, beginning in doubles play. Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg got things started with a 6-2 win over Georgia Southern'sÂ
MacKenzie Leopold and Evelyn Warkentin. Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic earned the doubles point for the Bears with a 6-4 win over Georgia Southern's Angelina Mihajlovic and Amelie Rosadoro.
In singles action, Evelyn Warkentin of Georgia Southern defeated Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-3, 6-0 on court one. Georgia Southern's Nanaka Kijima earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Antonia Schweigel to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
The match on court four went three sets where ultimately, MacKenzie Leopold of Georgia Southern grabbed a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 win over Marie Bannmeyer. The Eagles'Â
Franziska Heinemann and Tea Zivic were in a highly competitive close match on court two. Heinemann won a first set tiebreaker and was able to also win a close second set in a 7-6(6), 6-4 win over Zivic to clinch the match for Georgia Southern.

The Bears will be back in action on Wednesday, March 11 against in-state rival Kennesaw State from the Copelan Tennis Complex in Macon. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
