Bears Overcome Rainy Conditions To Finish Third At Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. – Despite a morning storm, and unfavorable playing conditions, the Mercer men's golf team battled through adversity to finish third of 15 teams at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia on Monday, March 16.

After the opening 18 holes, the Bears were tied for first with the hosts of the event, Georgia, due to a round in the red by Nathan Trodd and two scores of even par by Albin Ekvall and Josemaria Gutierrez. Trodd's two-under 70 tied three others for the best individual score in the first round. Ekvall and Gutierrez were tied for fifth individually and Henry Robards' one-over 73 pushed him into 11th.

Ekvall, a native of Helsinborg, Sweden, finished the Southern Intercollegiate as Mercer's leading scorer with a score of one over par after 36 holes. Ekvall finished third of 83 individuals.
