Mercer Falls To UAB, 4-1

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its final non-conference match of the season to UAB, 4-1 Sunday afternoon from the Copelan Tennis Complex.

Starting with doubles, UAB's Julia Caffarena and Antonia Ende defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Antonia Schweigel, 6-2. On court two, Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic rolled to a convincing, 6-1 win over UAB's Gresi Bajri and Nera Tesankic.
That left the doubles point to be decided on court one where Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg earned a hard-fought 6-4 win over UAB's Kristyna Damaskova and Klara Kajabova to clinch the doubles point for the Bears.
In singles action, UAB's Antonia Ende defeated Sofiya Tsitavets, 6-1, 6-0. On court two, Klara Kajabova of UAB was able to win the tiebreaker in the second set over Tea Zivic to earn the 6-3, 7-6(2) win.
There was another second set tiebreaker over on court five, where again UAB was able to come away with the win as Julia Caffarena defeated Ines Hömberg, 6-4, 7-6(4) which gave the Blazers a 3-1 lead.
The other three singles matches were all in the third set. On court one, UAB's Kristyna Damaskova defeated Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to clinch the match for UAB.
Mercer will return to conference play on Tuesday when the Bears host Furman at 2:30 p.m. from the Copelan Tennis Complex.
