
Bears Drop Game, 17-8 To Dartmouth

Macon, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse dropped its game at home to Dartmouth, 17-8, Monday afternoon from Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia.
Dartmouth used a strong first half to take command of the game as the Big Green led 12-2 at halftime to pick up their sixth win of the season.
Each team had 25 shots in the game, although Dartmouth put 23 of its shots on goal to Mercer's 16. The Bears also did well in the draw circle, as draws were 14-13, Dartmouth. Dartmouth entered the game as the No. 1 team in the country in draw controls per game (18.8) and draw percentage (68.9%).
Both teams nearly had nearly identical total turnovers as Dartmouth had 13 turnovers to 12 for the Bears.
Caroline Glus was the only Mercer player to score more than one goal in the game as she had two goals to go with two draw controls and one ground ball.
Defensively, Mercer had three players with two or more caused turnovers, led by freshman defender Sophie Andrychowski who had a career high three caused turnovers. Ayla Galloway won a team best seven draw controls and Mackenzie Ward made six saves in goal for the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Abby Vane scored the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the game. However, Dartmouth responded by scoring the next eight goals to take an 8-1 lead early in the second quarter.
Maya Maldonado had a nice pass from behind the cage to Reaghan Lomascola to make it an 8-2 game. Dartmouth would then close the half on a 4-0 run to take a 12-2 lead into halftime.
The Bears got off to a good start to begin the second half as Glus and Gabby Brisbin both score less than one minute apart to make it a 12-4 lead for the Big Green. However, Dartmouth would tighten up its defense as the Bears were unable to score for the remaining 12 minutes of the quarter, while Dartmouth got the two goals back and led 14-4 after three quarters.
To begin the fourth quarter, Abbi Rupnow won the draw control and quickly found Maldonado behind the Dartmouth defense who scored her first goal of the game just five seconds into the fourth quarter. From there, both teams traded goals the rest of the way, with each team scoring three more goals as Dartmouth came away with the 17-8 win.
